Heated Oxygen Sensor.
Oxygen Sensor.

  • Monitors the air-to-fuel ratio within your engine
  • Can become worn over time or damaged by a fluid leak
  • Replacement by an INFINITI professional is recommended

Your vehicle's combustion system depends on various sensors to maintain the environment required for proper performance. One of these sensors if the Oxygen Sensor (Rear). At their inception, these sensors were invented to help limit emissions, and are now a standard offering in most current vehicles. Depending on which INFINITI model and year you drive, you may have one or more of these in your engine.

Your Oxygen Sensor (Rear)s help measure your engine's air-to-fuel balance, working with the vehicle's computer to moderate the ratio depending on whether your engine is running on too little oxygen (burning rich) or too much oxygen (burning lean). Having the wrong air-fuel mixture may negatively affect the combustion engine, resulting in poorer fuel efficiency and an increase in emissions. That's one reason why it's so important to get a genuine INFINITI Oxygen Sensor (Rear).

The Oxygen Sensor (Rear) produces electricity, and the amount of voltage it creates depends on the product of the exhaust system. Simply put, the voltage generated by the Oxygen Sensor (Rear) fluctuates with changes in the air-fuel ratio. When the system notes a variance in voltage, your vehicle's onboard computer adjusts the ratio to keep the combustion engine running as designed.

Your Oxygen Sensor (Rear) may need to be replaced after a period of time or usage. In certain circumstances, your car may need a premature O2 sensor replacement if it comes in contact with coolant or oil due to leaks or other contaminants. Some symptoms that may clue you into the need for a new Oxygen Sensor (Rear) are: engine misfiring, noisy idling, poor gas mileage, and an illuminated dashboard warning light.

Because most modern cars rely on more than one Oxygen Sensor (Rear) to moderate the combustion process, it can be challenging for a DIY mechanic to diagnose and replace the right sensor on their own. Occasionally, the repair involves at a specialized scanner and jacking the vehicle up to get to the undercarriage. So many INFINITI drivers choose to get their Oxygen Sensor (Rear) replacement services from their local INFINITI experts.
