Air Fuel Ratio Sensor.
Oxygen Sensor.

  • Monitors the air-to-fuel ratio within your engine
  • Can become worn over time or damaged by a fluid leak
  • Replacement by an INFINITI professional is recommended

Your INFINITI's combustion engine relies on a variety of sensors to preserve the environment required for proper performance. One of these sensors if the Oxygen Sensor. Originally, Oxygen Sensors were rolled out to reduce emissions, and they can be found in the large majority of cars on the road today. Depending on your INFINITI model and year, your engine may have one or more sensors.

Your INFINITI's O2 sensors help gauge your engine's air-to-fuel balance, helping your engine's internal computer regulate the ratio depending on whether your engine is burning rich (too little oxygen) or too much oxygen (burning lean). Having the wrong air-fuel mixture may negatively affect the combustion engine, leading to poorer fuel efficiency and more emissions. That's why it's smart to get a new INFINITI O2 sensor.

An Oxygen Sensor makes electricity, and the amount of voltage it results in depends on what the exhaust system is producing. In other words, the electricity generated by your INFINITI O2 sensor varies if the air-to-fuel ratio is off. When a variance in voltage is detected, your INFINITI's computer makes adjustments to the fuel mixtures to keep the combustion engine running as designed.

Your Oxygen Sensor may require a replacement due to age and wear. In some cases, your car may need a premature O2 sensor replacement if it comes in contact with coolant or oil due to leaks or other contaminants. Some potential signs that it's time for a new INFINITI sensor include: engine misfires, rough idling, decreased fuel efficiency, and an illuminated dashboard warning light.

Because most modern cars rely on multiple O2 sensors to regulate the operation of the combustion process, it can be difficult for vehicle owners to diagnose and repair this issue at home. Occasionally, the process requires a specialized code scanner and inspecting the undercarriage by jacking up the vehicle. Accordingly, most INFINITI owners choose to get their Oxygen Sensor replacement services at their local INFINITI service center.
