Oxygen Sensor

Part Number: 22693-1PM0A
Supersession(s): 22693-6GX0A; 226931PM0A

  • Monitors the air-to-fuel ratio within your engine
  • Can become worn over time or damaged by a fluid leak
  • Replacement by an INFINITI professional is recommended

Your INFINITI's combustion engine relies on various sensors to maintain the environment required for proper performance. One of these mechanisms is the O2 sensor. At their inception, they were introduced to help control and curb emissions, and are now a standard offering in most current vehicles. Depending on your INFINITI model and year, your combustion engine may rely on one or more of these.

Your INFINITI's O2 sensors help gauge the air-to-fuel ratio in your engine, working with the internal computer to regulate said ratio depending on whether your engine is burning rich (too little oxygen) or too much oxygen (burning lean). An “off” air-to-fuel ratio can affect your engine combustion performance, leading to reduced fuel efficiency and an increase in emissions. That's why it's a good idea to have a new INFINITI O2 sensor.

An Oxygen Sensor makes electricity, and the voltage it renders depends on what's coming out of the exhaust system. In layman's terms, the voltage generated by the Oxygen Sensor will vary if the fuel-air mixture is off! When the system notes a variance in voltage, your vehicle's onboard computer makes adjustments to the fuel mixtures to keep it running as designed.

Your INFINITI Oxygen Sensor may require a replacement due to age and wear. In some cases, you may need to replace it prematurely if it comes in contact with coolant or oil due to leaks or other forms of contamination. Some potential signs that it's time for a replacement O2 sensor include: engine misfiring, loud idling, poor gas mileage, and an illuminated check engine light.

Since most modern vehicles rely on more than one Oxygen Sensor to regulate the operation of the combustion process, it can be hard for vehicle owners to diagnose and repair this issue at home. In some cases, the repair involves at a specialized scanner and inspecting the undercarriage by jacking up the vehicle. That's why many INFINITI owners opt for getting Oxygen Sensor repairs with their local INFINITI technicians.
