The Accelerator Pedal Sensor in your INFINITI transmits electronic signals to the throttle, which controls how quickly or slowly it moves based on the position of the gas pedal. When the gas pedal is pushed down and engaged, the Accelerator Pedal Sensor electronically tells the throttle to open further and allow more fuel and air to enter the engine. As you put less pressure on the accelerator, the Accelerator Pedal Sensor signals the engine throttle to close (how much it closes depends on the pedal position), which then decreases the rate of acceleration in your INFINITI.

Before this electronic system was created, the relationship between the accelerator and the throttle was a mechanical system. In older car models, a wire connected the acceleration pedal to a valve that would push or pull the throttle open or closed, depending on how hard the pedal was pushed. Nowadays, vehicles use the Accelerator Pedal Sensor for maximum performance.

The signs that your Accelerator Pedal Sensor needs replacing include: inconsistent acceleration and deceleration when depressing or releasing the acceleration pedal, a decline in fuel efficiency, or a “Check Engine” light that’s illuminated on your INFINITI dashboard.
