How to Install & Load an INFINITI Roof Rack

Do you find your INFINITIs trunk space getting crowded a little too often? Its time to get a roof rack! From large kayaks and surfboards to bikes and skis, there are so many cool things your INFINITI roof rack can hold! Learn how to install and load your roof rack to help keep your trunk clutter-free and your life stress-free.

Can Any Vehicle Have a Roof Rack?

Yes, a majority of vehicles can have a roof rack installed. Whether you have a naked roof or youre already on the way to a perfect rack mount, INFINITI has everything you need to install your roof rack securely. And to ensure the right fit for your INFINITI roof rack, make sure you know how to select the best one for your car.*

Whether youre looking to carry kayaks, surfboards, bikes, or skis, how to secure a roof rack starts with securing the roof rail crossbars. Securing the crossbars is the first step to getting your gear loaded for the adventure ahead.

Your roof rail crossbars should be explicitly designed for your roof and for the equipment you want to carry. Typically, the longer the crossbars, the more they can hold. Installing your INFINITI roof rail crossbars couldnt be more simple. In most cases, youll only need a screwdriver or Allen wrench to tighten them into place, but, like always, double-checking the installation instructions that come with your crossbars is your best bet!

Installing Your INFINITI Roof Rack

Kayak & Canoe Roof Racks

For easy loading, place one of your INFINITI carpeted floor mats on the roof of the rear of your vehicle, and slide your kayak or canoe onto the roof rack from the tailgate using your carpet as a scratch-free slider.

Secure the straps through the cradle arms and over the top of your kayak. Then, loop the loose strap under the crossbar and thread it up to meet the buckle. Tighten and repeat on each cradle. Use your short belt to secure the stern to your INFINITI by way of the vehicles bumper. Loop the strap onto the stern and hook it below the bumper. Repeat this on the bow to ensure your kayak is strapped at all four points — two cradles, back and front.

Bicycle Roof Racks

The Yakima Front Loader** is the perfect rack for bicycles! To install your bicycle rack:

  1. Loosen the clamps.
  2. Lift the rack into place onto your crossbars.
  3. Tighten the front clamp.
  4. Tighten the back clamp.
  5. Secure the t-bolt. The rack shouldnt wobble or give once its clamped onto the crossbars.

To mount your bike:

  1. Lift the front hoop of the rack.
  2. Drop the front wheel of the bike into the tray.
  3. Roll your bike forward until the smaller hoop engages and secures the wheel in place.
  4. Pull down on your front wheel while turning the red knob clockwise to lock the hoops.
  5. Secure the rear wheel by locking the rear strap through your spokes and buckling it into place.

Surf Roof Racks

With its easy-load wheels, the Yakima SUPDawg rack** makes surf and paddleboard transport a breeze! To install your surfboard rack:

  1. Clamp each of the front and back carriers around your crossbars.
  2. Tighten the knobs until the carriers are firmly in place and the knobs are horizontal.
  3. Lock the carriers with the key at the clamp, so theyre fixed securely to the crossbars.

To load your surfboard:

  1. Drape the anchored straps along the side of your INFINITI.
  2. Center the weight of the board between the two carriers.
  3. Roll the board into place on top of the rack. Remember to load the boards upside-down with the fin facing forward.
  4. Secure the straps over the board.
  5. Insert each strap through the carriers ratchet before housing the excess length in the racks bottom slots.
  6. To release the ratchet straps, press the red buttons on the outside of the rack.

For added stability, loop the cam-buckle strap through the boards leash connection point. Use the short strap, now connected to the cam-buckle, to hook into the front bumper of your INFINITI, securing your board from the front as well.

Ski & Snowboard Roof Racks

For an easy ski and snowboard rack, the Yakima Fatcat EVO6** is perfect. With the ability to fit up to six pairs of skis or four snowboards, this rack can have you and your entire crew adventure-ready. To install your Fatcat EVO6 ski and snowboard rack:

  1. Unscrew the lever knob from the top of the universal mount.
  2. Open the strap.
  3. Match the screw with one of the two mounting positions on the front carrier to best fit your vehicle.
  4. Once the screw is through the mount, place the washer on top and attach the lever knob.
  5. Repeat the process for the opposite end of the carrier.
  6. Place the ski carriers on top of your crossbars and wrap the straps under the crossbar, placing the strap buckle into the carrier clamp.
  7. Tighten the gray knob until the buckle can be closed with firm resistance. Your Fatcat EVO6 rack has angle compensation to accommodate different crossbars.
  8. Adjust the angle, so the opening of each rack carrier is parallel to the roof.
  9. Open the individual carriers to tighten each level knob. There should be firm resistance upon closing the lever of each knob, and the carriers should no longer angle or wiggle.

To secure your skis and snowboards:

  1. Unlock the bars on the rack to open the hinged bars.
  2. Slide your gear into place.
  3. Close the rack bar until it clicks and locks into place.
  4. Gear can be locked with your rack key once the rack is closed.
