How Do I Know My Key Fob Is Dead?
Several things can cause your vehicle to have issues starting, so you first want to make sure the key fob is actually the problem. If you used the key fob to unlock your doors before getting inside your INFINITI, then the fob is likely not to blame since it has enough battery to accomplish that task.
If you didn't need to unlock your doors before getting in, try locking and unlocking them with the fob. If nothing happens, you could be dealing with a dead key fob or a faulty signal.
How to Start INFINITI with Dead Key Fob
Can you start your car with a dead key fob? You sure can! Depending on your model and year, there are different ways to do so.
On most INFINITI models, you can hold the Intelligent Key against the ignition button to start it. First, press down on the brake with your foot. Next, put the Intelligent Key in front of the ignition switch for about five seconds. You should hear a chime or beep. Once you hear that chime, you can push down on the ignition button with the key fob, and your engine should start.
Some models may have a key port located on the dash panel. Similar to how you would start an INFINITI with a key, insert the fob into the port and push the start button.
In some older models, you may be able to start your INFINITI with a mechanical key that's hidden inside the fob. Simply pull the physical key from the bottom of the fob, and use it to start your INFINITI the old-school way.
What to Do When Your Key Fob Dies
Replacing the battery is the first thing you should do to try to fix a dead key fob. If your fob still doesn't work after that, it could mean the battery is fine but your fob has a weak signal or is damaged.
