Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve. Valve Control.
PCV Valve.
- Ventilates harmful gases so they don't enter your engine
- When clogged or damaged can cause high engine pressure or gasket failure
- Replacement best left to a professional
Your Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve (PCV Valve) controls gas emissions expelled from your INFINITI's crankcase. The PCV Valve attaches to crankcase, which houses motor oil. As fuel burns, the lubricant in your crankcase develops gasses that can be damaging to the interior of your INFINITI's engine and the atmosphere. Instead of allowing harmful gasses to get into your engine and create sludge that can ruin your INFINITI, the PCV Valve guides the gases to a “disposal” mechanism. They go into the combustion chamber to be burned. Lastly, they're released into the atmosphere as a less-damaging exhaust.
This small, but important part helps provide pollution control and better airflow in the crankcase. After a PCV Valve becomes worn, it can cause engine issues. An obstructed or closed valve may create high engine pressure, head gasket issues, oil leaks, high-pitched noises, unwanted engine moisture, or buggy sensors. Occasionally a PCV Valve becomes stuck open. If this occurs it can lead to black smoke, loud noises while your engine idles, a hard starting engine, or motor oil in the PCV Valve.
Regular system and engine maintenance can keep the PCV Valve from remaining stuck. Despite following a regular maintenance schedule, if the PCV Valve in your INFINITI must be repaired or replaced, you may want to visit a local authorized INFINITI service center to diagnose your vehicle, unless you're experienced in automotive repairs. Get the job done right and don't take unnecessary risks with your INFINITI!
