Your INFINITI engine relies on a multitude of complex, connected parts that support the signature INFINITI ride you know and love. Some parts are linked by a series of belts, one of which is called the Serpentine Belt.

Your INFINITI Serpentine Belt is a sturdy, continuous belt that conduct power through and to the alternator, power steering pump, car A/C compressor, and, in some cases, to the water pump, too. Sometimes the Serpentine Belt is called an accessory belt because it powers the peripheral devices in your INFINITI engine. However, you shouldnt underestimate its importance.

Serpentine Belts are usually made of ultra-sturdy rubber thats specially designed to endure the heat and friction involved in transferring energy from one engine component to the next. However, like any other part, they are subject to wear and tear.

Serpentine Belts can tear or crack with age, or they can act up if soaked with oil or coolant. Also, they may lose tension, lack alignment, or slip because of faulty tensioners, which may require replacing both the Serpentine Belt and the tensioner, or simply re-tensioning the belt, if its still in working order. Some symptoms of Serpentine Belt problems are: weird rattling noises coming from the engine, a malfunctioning car A/C or loss of power steering functionality, an overheated engine, and visible cracks or wear on the belt.

Typically, your INFINITI Serpentine Belt is one of your most long-lasting parts, but issues like oil leaks and worn tensioner mechanisms can significantly shorten its lifespan. You should get your Serpentine Belt inspected when you change your oil, or an INFINITI expert can do it for you when you visit one of our service centers near you.

The required method for a Serpentine Belt replacement is dependent on the tensioner mechanism in your INFINITI. Consult with an expert technician or your INFINITI manual before DIY-ing any services!

Without a doubt, youll need a Serpentine Belt thats designed-to-fit your model and year, and an adequate belt tensioner. If your INFINITI has a hydraulic or manual tensioner mechanism, visiting your nearest INFINITI service center is advisable.

When youre ready to get started, take a photo of your Serpentine Belts current positioning and of how it winds around the motors different parts. Then, detach the tensioner using a ratchet and gently unwind the Serpentine Belt, avoiding displacing any pulleys or accessories.

Once youve removed the old Serpentine Belt, inspect it for signs of coolant or motor oil leaks, cracks, and breakage to identify any other issues that may not be resolved by just replacing the belt! Re-wind the new Serpentine Belt in the old ones place and re-activate the tensioner, adequately tightening it with a wrench. Lastly, crank the engine and allow it to idle while you observe the new belts operation to ensure it is installed correctly.
