Your INFINITI engine relies on a multitude of complex, interconnected components that help you enjoy that smooth INFINITI ride you love! Many components connect through a network of belts, one of which is called the Serpentine Belt.

The Serpentine Belt is a sturdy, continuous belt that transmits power through and to the alternator, power steering pump, car A/C compressor, and, sometimes, water pump. Sometimes the Serpentine Belt is called an accessory belt because it powers the peripheral devices in your INFINITI engine. However, that simple reference doesnt make it any less important.

Serpentine Belts are generally made of tough-but-flexible rubber thats specially designed to endure the heat and friction involved in transferring energy from one engine component to the next. But, like all good things, even Serpentine Belts dont last forever!

Serpentine Belts can fray, crack, or even peel with age, or they can act up if soaked with oil or coolant. Additionally, they can slip, lose tension, or become misaligned due to faulty tensioning mechanisms, which may result in needing to replace both the tensioner and the Serpentine Belt, or simply re-tensioning the belt, if its still in working order. Common signs of Serpentine Belt issues include: engine rattling noises, subpar air conditioning or steering capabilities, engine overheating, and visible signs of wear on the belt.

Generally, your INFINITIs Serpentine Belt is supposed to last hundreds or thousands of miles, but its life can be cut short due to lack of maintenance, oil leaks, and other issues. You should inspect your Serpentine Belt any time you change the oil, or get a professional inspection from an INFINITI service center in your area.

The process of replacing your INFINITI Serpentine Belt varies depending on the type of tensioner mechanism it relies on. Consequently, its best to check your INFINITIs manual before replacing the Serpentine Belt yourself.

In most cases, youll need a Serpentine Belt thats designed-to-fit your model and year, and a belt tensioner tool. If your INFINITI has a hydraulic or manual tensioner mechanism, getting a Serpentine Belt replacement at an INFINITI service center near you is highly recommended.

When youre ready to get started, snap a photo of your belts current placement and of how it winds around the motors different parts. Then, release the tensioner using a ratchet and delicately unwind the Serpentine Belt, avoiding displacing any pulleys or accessories.

Once youve undone the old belt, check it for signs of engine oil or coolant leaks, frays, and breakage to identify any other issues that may not be resolved by just replacing the belt! Re-thread a new Serpentine Belt in the old ones place and release the tensioner, using a wrench to tighten it to the appropriate level. Finally, turn your vehicle on and let the engine idle while visually ensuring that the new belt runs smoothly.
