Air Fuel Ratio Sensor.
Oxygen Sensor.

  • Monitors the air-to-fuel ratio within your engine
  • Can become worn over time or damaged by a fluid leak
  • Replacement by an INFINITI professional is recommended

Your vehicle's combustion system depends on various sensors to maintain an adequate environment for performance. One of these sensors is the O2 or Oxygen Sensor. Originally, these sensors were invented to help limit emissions, and are now a standard offering in most current vehicles. Depending on which INFINITI model and year you drive, you may have one or more of these in your engine.

Your Oxygen Sensors help measure the air-to-fuel mixture, helping your engine's internal computer regulate the ratio depending on whether your engine is burning rich (too little oxygen) or burning lean (too much oxygen). An “off” air-to-fuel ratio can negatively impact the combustion system, resulting in reduced fuel efficiency and an increase in emissions. That's one reason why it's so important to get a new INFINITI O2 sensor.

An Oxygen Sensor makes electricity, and the amount of voltage it results in depends on what the exhaust system is producing. In layman's terms, the electricity generated by your INFINITI O2 sensor fluctuates with changes in the air-fuel ratio. When the system notes a variance in voltage, your engine's internal computer makes adjustments to the fuel mixtures to keep your INFINITI running as intended.

Your INFINITI Oxygen Sensor may need to be replaced due to regular wear and tear. In certain circumstances, you may need to replace it prematurely if your INFINITI sensor is damaged by coolant or oil leaks, or other forms of contamination. Some potential signs that it's time for a new INFINITI sensor include: engine misfires, rough idling, decreased fuel efficiency, and an illuminated dashboard warning light.

Since most modern vehicles rely on more than one Oxygen Sensor to regulate the operation of the combustion process, it can be hard for a DIY mechanic to diagnose and replace the right sensor on their own. Occasionally, the repair involves at a specialized scanner and inspecting the undercarriage by jacking up the vehicle. So many INFINITI drivers choose to get their Oxygen Sensor replacement services with their local INFINITI technicians.
