Heated Oxygen Sensor.
Oxygen Sensor.

  • Monitors the air-to-fuel ratio within your engine
  • Can become worn over time or damaged by a fluid leak
  • Replacement by an INFINITI professional is recommended

Your INFINITI's combustion engine relies on a variety of sensors to preserve optimal conditions for performance. One of these technologies is the O2 or Oxygen Sensor. Originally, they were introduced to help control and curb emissions, and are now standard in most modern vehicles. Depending on the INFINITI model and year you own, your combustion engine may rely on one or more of these.

Your INFINITI's O2 sensors help gauge the air-to-fuel mixture, working with the internal computer to regulate said ratio depending on whether your engine is running on too little oxygen (burning rich) or too much oxygen (burning lean). An “off” air-to-fuel ratio can affect your engine combustion performance, leading to reduced fuel efficiency and an increase in emissions. That's why it's a good idea to have a high-quality INFINITI Oxygen Sensor.

An Oxygen Sensor makes electricity, and the amount of voltage it creates depends on what the exhaust system is producing. In other words, the electricity generated by your INFINITI O2 sensor fluctuates with changes in the air-fuel ratio. When a variance in voltage is detected, your engine's internal computer makes adjustments to the fuel mixtures to keep it running as designed.

Your vehicle's O2 sensor may need to be replaced after a period of time or usage. In certain circumstances, your car may need a premature O2 sensor replacement if your INFINITI sensor is damaged by coolant or oil leaks, or other forms of contamination. Some symptoms that may clue you into the need for a new INFINITI sensor include: engine misfiring, rough idling, decreased gas mileage, and a check engine light.

Since the majority of modern cars rely on not one but multiple Oxygen Sensors to support proper combustion, it can be difficult for an at-home mechanic to pinpoint which one requires replacement! In some cases, the process requires a specialized code scanner and inspecting the undercarriage by jacking up the vehicle. That's why most INFINITI owners opt for getting Oxygen Sensor repairs at their local INFINITI service center.
