Oxygen Sensor

Part Number: 226A0-3NT0A
Supersession(s): 226A03NT0A

  • Monitors the air-to-fuel ratio within your engine
  • Can become worn over time or damaged by a fluid leak
  • Replacement by an INFINITI professional is recommended

Your INFINITI combustion system depends on a variety of sensors to preserve an adequate environment for performance. One of these sensors if the Oxygen Sensor. Originally, these sensors were invented to help limit emissions, and are now standard in most modern vehicles. Depending on which INFINITI model and year you drive, you may have one or more of these in your engine.

The Oxygen Sensors help gauge the air-to-fuel mixture, working with the internal computer to regulate the mixture depending on whether your engine is running on too little oxygen (burning rich) or too much oxygen (burning lean). Having the incorrect ratio of air-to-fuel can affect your engine combustion performance, leading to reduced fuel efficiency and increased emissions. That's why it's a good idea to have a high-quality INFINITI Oxygen Sensor.

An Oxygen Sensor produces an electric charge, and the voltage it renders depends on the product of the exhaust system. In other words, the electricity generated by your INFINITI Oxygen Sensor fluctuates with changes in the air-fuel ratio. When the system notices a change in voltage, your INFINITI's computer adjusts the ratio to keep it running as designed.

Your Oxygen Sensor may need to be replaced after a period of time or usage. In certain circumstances, you may need to replace it prematurely if it's damaged due to leaks or other contaminants. Some symptoms that may clue you into the need for a replacement O2 sensor include: engine misfiring, loud idling, poor gas mileage, and an illuminated dashboard warning light.

Since most modern vehicles rely on multiple O2 sensors to regulate the operation of the combustion process, it can be challenging for an at-home mechanic to pinpoint which one requires replacement! Occasionally, the repair involves at a specialized scanner and inspecting the undercarriage by jacking up the vehicle. That's why most INFINITI owners opt for getting O2 sensor replacement services with their local INFINITI technicians.
