  • Monitors the air-to-fuel ratio within your engine
  • Can become worn over time or damaged by a fluid leak
  • Replacement by an INFINITI professional is recommended

Your INFINITI's combustion engine relies on various sensors to maintain an adequate environment for performance. One of these mechanisms if the Oxygen Sensor. Originally, Oxygen Sensors were rolled out to reduce emissions, and are now a standard offering in most current vehicles. Depending on which INFINITI model and year you drive, your combustion engine may rely on one or more of these.

Your Oxygen Sensors help measure your engine's air-to-fuel balance, helping your engine's internal computer regulate the mixture depending on whether your engine is running on too little oxygen (burning rich) or too much oxygen (burning lean). An “off” air-to-fuel ratio may negatively affect the combustion engine, resulting in reduced fuel efficiency and increased emissions. That's one reason why it's so important to get a new INFINITI O2 sensor.

An Oxygen Sensor makes electricity, and the amount of voltage it results in depends on the product of the exhaust system. Simply put, the electricity generated by your INFINITI Oxygen Sensor will vary if the fuel-air mixture is off! When a variance in voltage is detected, your INFINITI's computer adjusts the ratio to keep the combustion engine running as designed.

Your vehicle's O2 sensor may need to be replaced after a period of time or usage. In certain circumstances, your car may need a premature O2 sensor replacement if your INFINITI sensor is damaged by coolant or oil leaks, or other contaminants. Some symptoms that may clue you into the need for a new Oxygen Sensor are: cylinder misfires, noisy idling, poor gas mileage, and an illuminated dashboard warning light.

Since most modern vehicles rely on multiple O2 sensors to moderate the combustion process, it can be hard for a DIY mechanic to diagnose and replace the right sensor on their own. Occasionally, the process involves a specialized code scanner and inspecting the undercarriage by jacking up the vehicle. So many INFINITI drivers opt for getting Oxygen Sensor repairs at their local INFINITI service center.

Is one or more of your INFINITI Oxygen Sensors misfiring? Get an OEM replacement sensor designed to fit your INFINITI QX56 2011-2015 or INFINITI QX80 2011-2015. See the What This Fits tab for more information.
