The Engine Control Module in your INFINITI can be considered the brainpower behind your entire engine management framework. Also known as the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Unit (ECU), this car part is responsible for monitoring the many sensors within your engine compartment that generate the energy your INFINITI needs to operate efficiently.

This component controls the fuel mixture, manages fuel pump operation and ignition timing, analyzes emissions performance, and so much more. In some cars, the module even manages other processes in addition to its primary tasks, including the cruise control, anti-theft systems, ABS, and BCM (body control module).

Your vehicle's Engine Control Module can become damaged for a number of reasons, including wiring issues. Other reasons may include extreme heat, excessive vibrations, too much or too little voltage, and general wear and tear from corrosion and age. Total Engine Control Module failures are unlikely, while singular issues within control modules are more common. And when these internal problems are overlooked for too long, you could wind up needing the entire Engine Control Module replaced.
