The Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal is found on the transfer case of four-wheel-drive INFINITI models. The transfer case is responsible for transferring power to the rear wheels on your four-wheel-drive model using gear reductions and chain drives.
The transfer case output shaft is the part that connects your axle to the transfer case with the transmission's input shaft and requires a Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal to keep the connection secure. Without the Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal, transmission fluid would leak from the rear and front output shaft.
If a broken or worn out Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal is causing a leak, the lack of fluid will no longer lubricate the internal transfer case components, which can damage the gears and chain drives by causing them to overheat or wear out. These damaged internal parts can cause the entire transfer case to become damaged and even inoperable, potentially leaving the vehicle without four-wheel drive operation.
