Your INFINITI combustion system depends on numerous sensors and gauges to maintain an adequate environment for performance. One of these technologies is the O2 sensor. Originally, these sensors were invented to help limit emissions, and are now standard in most modern vehicles. Depending on your INFINITI model and year, you may have one or more of these in your engine.

Your INFINITI's O2 sensors help gauge the air-to-fuel mixture, working with the vehicle's computer to moderate said ratio depending on whether your engine is running on too little oxygen (burning rich) or burning lean (too much oxygen). An “off” air-to-fuel ratio can negatively impact the combustion system, leading to poorer fuel efficiency and more emissions. That's why it's smart to get a genuine INFINITI Oxygen Sensor.

The Oxygen Sensor produces electricity, and the amount of voltage it results in depends on what's coming out of the exhaust system. In layman's terms, the electricity generated by your INFINITI O2 sensor fluctuates with changes in the air-fuel ratio. When a variance in voltage is detected, your engine's internal computer adjusts the ratio to keep the combustion engine running as designed.
